AnswersQ1. How long is the service available for free?

A1. coreFusion intends to offer this service with no predetermined end date. Each site that is registered does not have a time limit.

Q2. How can you host Domino web sites for free?

A2. We want people to have the ability to try Domino hosting and see what all the excitement is about. Domino is a very easy and powerful web development environment and virtual or dedicated hosting tends to be difficult to find. Once you try our free hosting service we hope that when your needs grow you will be pleased with our service and subscribe to our fee based services.

In addition, we are able to offer free hosting because of the environment that we have implemented, we only offer small amounts of disk space so that we can host more sites, we do not allow agents or access to the Domino Directory and this helps keep the server(s) fast.

Q3. Do I have to buy a license or software to use this service?

Q4. Can I use my own Id file?

A4. No, you must use the Id file supplied. In order to facilitate security, we supply an Id file already configured to access the server. We would not be able to provide instant access to this service and manage all of the cross certifications otherwise.

Q5. How does the service work?

A5. The basic premis is:

  • You register for the service
  • We send you an Id file and password
  • You replicate an empty database that is created at the time of registration to your local machine
  • After you populate the database with forms and views, you replicate it back to the server and your web site is online instantly
Also, see How do I make a specific element open when I connect to my free site?

Q15. Can I have a free web site when my Company has a firewall?

A15. Yes, you can, however, you may need to ask your technical staff to make some changes. Domino uses port 1352 to replicate over TCP/IP, you can ask your support staff to allow port 1352 to be opened up for replication. If your Companies security policies are really tight, they may want to further restrict that. Give your support staff the host and domain name of the server you are assigned to and they may open the firewall just to that server.

Q16. Can I choose my own directory name?

A16. Yes, starting February 7, 2001, we enabled the ability to choose your own directory name during the registration process. If you want to change your directory from a previously registered site, simply register again, and re-replicate your data to the new site. Then notify us that you wish to decommission the old site. You can send e-mail to: free.hosting@corefusion.com.

Q18. I registered but I did not receive any information on how to setup my free site?

A18. In most cases this means that you did not give us a valid e-mail address. As part of the Terms of Service (TOS) you must supply a valid e-mail address, we use this address to send you your Id file and connection information. If you did not supply a valid e-mail address, simply re-register with a valid address and you will receive your information. Then send a message to: free.hosting@corefusion.com and tell us that you registered without a vaild address, we will then delete the bad registration.

If you supplied a valid address and still did not receive a message, simply reregister and then send a message to: free.hosting@corefusion.com and tell us that you did not receive a message, we will then delete the bad registration.
